Welcome to Hauntingly Beautiful Things
Hauntingly Beautiful Things is the home for my writing.
My ideas and words seem to resonate with those who never know their place.
My psyche guides me as I write about the exiled parts of the mind, human behavior, and shadow.
I collect broken pieces, like breadcrumbs, and try to make some sense of them. Putting them together in mythopoetic forms that speak to the soul.
My writing blends psychology with symbolic forms found in film, fairy tales, and forensics. I have found value in the dark, misunderstood, and macabre dimensions of my personality and will use this space to express and share.
Although I will NOT be given a trigger warning for everything I write, I will honor the sensitive nature of some of the content so you can choose how deeply you wish to dive in.
For this reason, each article or posting here will have a darkness meter. The scale will range from 1 skull - 5 skulls like this: 💀 out of 💀 💀 💀 💀 💀
Each article will start like this so you can choose to continue reading or not:
Darkness Meter: 💀💀 out of 💀 💀 💀 💀 💀
Hopefully, you get the idea that more skulls raise the possibility that I am issuing difficult subject matter that may be too stirring or activating for you. It may or may not contain a discussion about forensics, serial killers, psychopathy, etc.
About Melissa Kim Corter
As a highly empathic, intuitive child, I was fascinated with other people’s basements. Dark, unexplored spaces enthralled me, and my insatiable curiosity toward the hidden dimensions of the mind led to decades of exploring the shadow dynamics within the human psyche.
I am an internationally bestselling author who has published numerous books and articles. My expertise revolves around the shadow side of the personality. My unique writing style blends psychology with symbolic forms found in film, fairy tales, and forensics. I am trained in traditional Jungian shadow work, the root of shadow studies, and I serve on the International Association for Jungian Studies (IAJS) board.
My decades of experience include working closely with the dark night of the soul, psychopathy, and encounters with darkness; these themes deeply imbue my writing. My work often makes people uncomfortable as it draws on and celebrates the macabre, dark, and misunderstood dimensions of personality.
I am passionate about justice as an archetypal essence who weaves her way into our lives in the most mysterious of ways. For this reason, I approach true crime with compassion and care, writing about what is essential to bring darkness to light and help others learn the power of their intuition as a key asset rather than a function that is often dismissed.
I have a master’s degree in Depth Psychology and Jungian Archetypal Studies and am pursuing a Ph.D. at Pacifica Graduate Institute. I advanced my studies by completing post-doctoral training in journalism through New York University and became a certified death investigator in 2025.
